What a fantastic day we had at the Santry Athletics championship this year. We managed to avoid the rain and the children represented the school with great pride. Everyone behaved themselves so well and seemed to really enjoy the experience. We also had some great success! For the third year in a row we had a winner in one of the four Sprint categories. This time it was in the boys Under 12 sprint event where Hlieb brilliantly blitzed home to take the gold medal in the final! Adriana put her gymnastics talent to great use as she impressively jumped 352cm against a strong wind to win silver in the Under 14 long jump and Jack was the youngest winner from any school to take home a medal as he won silver in the Under 14
high jump which is made even more impressive by the fact that he only had his first practice two days before! We also had many other impressive displays. Dylan and Mia both finished 5th in the shot putt, Alyssa finished fifth in the 600 metres, Eoin finished 5th in the long jump, Olivia finished 6th in the high jump, Rhia made the final of the Under 14 sprint event and our boys under 12 relay team narrowly missed out on a medal in the final! However, we are very proud of how all our athletes competed on the day. We had a lot of young kids who performed really well so this all bodes well for the future of athletics in the school! We must also give a special mention to Reggie who did so well in the Race of Champions and was delighted with his gold medal!
